With its matt black dial, applied luminous indices at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, and Mercedes hands, the design achieved a clarity that required no revision for nearly thirty years.

Inside, the watch housed various iterations of Rolex's chronometer-grade automatic movements. Early examples featured the Cal. 1560 with 1560 or 1570 designations, whilst later models transitioned to the higher-frequency Cal. 1575, beating at 19,800 vph.
